Badger Skull B by DonSimpson Badger Skull B by DonSimpson
Carved badger skull.

This skull is much smoother than Badger Skull A, but still very bold in shape, and I decided on a smooth, bold design to complement it.

Where do you get your skulls? And what kind of equipment you use to carve them? :)

I really like how it almost looks like the carved parts aren't carved at all, but look natural. Beautiful.

as much as i love spirals, i think i like this one better than the other badger skull. the shape and arrangement of the carved holes reminds me of cathedral vaulting....very etereal!

This is eerily beautiful, but as a paleontologist I cringe. I would hate to have to identify this in the lab.

This one is so simple and bold and elegant. I think this badger would be very pleased to see it's head in all this glory. Haha.

Amazing stuff.. You have pretty original ideas in there.

I found one weasel skull in our forest few years ago, so maybe i must have try to make something similar somewhere in the future. :)

Thank you. I could say the same about your gallery.

And you really should do something with the weasel skull.

This is stunning.
I adore animal skulls and I love the design you carved into it, really enhances the natural beauty of the skull.

I love the skulls, as I love the wands and the stoneage-type things.
It is a whole world of objects...

How does one join? One asks for it.

Any or all of the real skulls is fine. If one, I think I'd prefer YoteSkul.

I think I prefer this one to skull A. Something about the bold, simple lines that really compliments the shape of the skull and lends an alien touch. Well done.

The two skulls are somewhat different in proportions and texture, so adapting to that is part of it. B being the second one may have had something to do with it, too.

You've definitely got a point in both cases. Regardless, they really make for an interesting sculptural medium. I'd be interested in seeing more of them.

is that a real skull or carved clay?
Reply
:icondonsimpson:

It's real. Most of the skulls I've carved are real, some are cast plastic replicas (someone else did the casting, I did the carving afterward).

Stunning work reminiscent of the flying buttresses found in Gothic architecture, and the over all look has something very mystical about it, Amazing as always.
